Attache

Recipe by Shannon Mustipher

Absolutely loving this drink by the amazing Shannon Mustipher. It was created in collaboration with Cognac USA for this year’s Juneteenth and I was honored to get to recreate and photograph it.

Words from Shannon about this cocktail:

Inspired by the notion of this cocktail serving as an ambassador for the Cognac category and to raise awareness of the contributions African American bartenders through one of the earliest American cocktails to gain traction on the scene, the cobbler. While one of the most popular versions is based on sherry, a cobbler simply refers to to a style of serve, in which the base is served on pebbled ice and garnished elaborately with mint, fresh fruits and citrus. In a nod to the wine basis of the most famous example of the cobbler, this cocktail brings verjus into the picture, to add acidity and bring a gentler, lower ABV element to the glass, making for a more session-able.

Meanwhile, the verjus lends a pink hue to the cocktail, a nod to the Juneteenth tradition of the "Red Drink". Last, a splash of sparkling wine on top adds more to the festivities and adds a third grape-based component to the glass
