Allow me to introduce the drink that finally made this whiskey fan interested in rum: the Puerto Rican Racer.
It's basically a variation of a classic but lesser-known cocktail called a Diamondback (rye whiskey, apple brandy & yellow chartreuse) but personally, I enjoy this rum-based version a lot more. Plus the addition of grenadine really balances it all out and Peychaud's bitters always seem to do well in a boozy drink such as this.
2 oz lightly aged rum
1/2 oz apple brandy
1/2 oz yellow chartreuse
1 tsp true grenadine
1 dash Peychaud's bitters
Add all ingredients to a mixing glass and stir with ice until chilled. Strain into rocks glass over one large ice cube. No garnish.
