Large or small, every brand has a story. Check out some of the rad people in the craft spirits and cocktail industry!
Their distillery and tasting room isn't even operational yet but Freeland Spirits is already kicking butt.
They're the new kids on the block, jumping into Portland's growing craft distilling scene with their delicious gin, which they are producing at another local distillery while their space is under construction.
Freeland Spirits is a bit of a unicorn in the distilling world, as they are completely women owned and operated. I recently connected with Jill Kuehler (founder) and Molly Troupe (distiller) and got a little tour of what will soon be their distillery in mid-2018. Despite being super busy with construction, liquor store tastings and cranking out more gin, they agreed to answer a few questions...
Several of my favorite spirits and liqueurs come from New Deal Distillery. It's also one of the very first distilleries that started Portland's Distillery Row in the early 2000's. I was invited to visit a few months back and received a tour and tasting from Lance, the operations manager at New Deal. It's definitely a special place and they have some really exciting new products coming out in the next few months.
Since I started a cocktail blog and Instagram account, I figured I'd get some insight from someone who's actually in that industry. Turns out the guy isn't just "in the industry," he's a world-renowned bartender, consultant and creative force behind many incredible bars and brands. He's a big deal, but you'd never know it just talking to him.
No artificial flavoring, weird dyes or coloring here. This Portland-local distillery uses real fruit from the Pacific Northwest and infuses it with their five-time distilled and five-time filtered vodka. It's delicious stuff and honestly, it's really hard to make a bad drink with it!
I guess it was my lucky day because my host was none other than Eastside-legend Melissa Heim. Mel was kind enough to agree to an interview, so it's your lucky day as well because you get to hear from the creative force behind Eastside Distilling.
